In our Gospel today, Jesus again offers us nourishment for a very long journey — to eternal life. His listeners refuse to believe. They argue among themselves, ridiculing this silly offer of miraculous food. Yes, Jesus as living bread is difficult to understand-but remember the kindness God has already shown his people-feeding them, relieving their thirst, pursuing them again and again, in order to offer them the greatest gift of all. The bread that Jesus gives is life-saving. To eat this bread is to be totally united with God, through Jesus. It is to have one’s whole life filled with the spirit, the truth and integrity, the love, compassion, generosity and peacefulness of Jesus.
Today, let us taste and see, and experience, how good the Lord is. Let him be the primary food of our lives.
