In today’s Gospel, Peter, James and John, accompany Jesus to the mountain, where Jesus is totally transformed in his appearance – the light of God, shining through him. They hear God speak from the cloud, “This is my Son, the Chosen One. “Listen to him.”
This transfiguration that the Disciples experienced , was not something they were to see as happening to Jesus alone, but an invitation to them, and to us, to undergo a similar transformation. We accomplish this by listening to Jesus-to all that he invites us to be and to do. It means especially to have a total trust in walking the Way of Jesus-a total trust that only his Way will bring us into full union with God, the source of all truth, love, happiness and peace. In our Baptism, we began this journey. We continue it in each Mass we attend, each Communion we receive, each prayer we say, each kindness we show.
