In today’s Gospel, Jesus is in the house of Mary and Martha. Mary sits at the feet of Jesus and focuses all her attention on him, while Martha prepares the meal. Martha gets anxious and asks Jesus to tell Mary to help her. But Jesus says no “Mary has chosen the better part”. Martha’s trouble was not so much that she was busy, but that she forgot about Jesus, who tells her she was anxious about many things, but not the one thing necessary.
What is this one thing necessary? Relationship with Christ. Good hosts manage to get everything ready, but also truly listen, and converse with their guests. That is how we are encouraged to act every day to find God in all things, in all people, and, no matter how busy we are, to relate to them, because God is within them,, deep in their hearts In this way, we give hospitality to God himself.
